Mi-ja and Young-sook, two girls living on the Korean island of Jeju, are best friends that come from very different backgrounds. When they are old enough, they begin working in the sea with their village’s all-female diving collective, led by Young-sook’s mother. As the girls take up their positions as baby divers, they know they are beginning a life of excitement and responsibility but also danger. Despite their love for each other, Mi-ja and Young-sook’s differences are impossible to ignore. The Island of Sea Women is an epoch set over many decades, beginning during a period of Japanese colonialism in the 1930s and 1940s, followed by World War II, the Korean War and its aftermath, through the era of cell phones and wet suits for the women divers. Throughout this time, the residents of Jeju find themselves caught between warring empires. Mi-ja is the daughter of a Japanese collaborator, and she will forever be marked by this association. Young-sook was born into a long line of haenyeo and will inherit her mother’s position leading the divers in their village. Little do the two friends know that after surviving hundreds of dives and developing the closest of bonds, forces outside their control will push their friendship to the breaking point. Tercera parte (capítulos 7 a 11): presenta el motor de inducción, las máquinas síncronas, el generador síncrono, así como la operación de generadores y motores síncronos. Cuarta parte (capítulos 12 a 16): expone las máquinas de corriente directa, la teoría y aplicación de las técnicas modernas de control y la teoría y aplicación de las máquinas eléctricas especiales. Sus líneas de investigación son control, automatización, robótica, inteligencia articial, máquinas eléctricas, fuentes alternas de energía, entre otras. Además de haberse desempeñado como ingeniero de proyectos de desarrollo industrial y ser asesor de diversas compañías transnacionales, tiene escritos 10 libros y 6 capítulos en diferentes editoriales nacionales e internacionales. Ha asesorado más de 35 tesis de licenciatura y posgrado en el área de control y automatización, es miembro del Sistema Nacional de Investigadores y ha recibido numerosos reconocimientos académicos nacionales e internacionales.

La Historia de Milarepa, escrita a finales del siglo XV, es la obra más destacada de la literatura tibetana, y su protagonista, la figura más representativa de los habitantes del Techo del Mundo, a quien veneran como a su héroe espiritual, símbolo de la realización transcendente. Se trata de una narración sobria, a veces ingenua y tierna, otras sobrecogedora y llena de un hondo lirismo, que describe el difícil camino que hubo de recorrer Milarepa hasta alcanzar el Despertar. El budismo tántrico impregna todo el texto, con la desolada meseta y las imponentes montañas del Tíbet como telón de fondo. Allí, en las grutas de los Himalayas, vivió, meditó y alcanzó el Despertar, un yogui, un eremita, que supo, como gran poeta, enseñar cantando en verso sus profundas experiencias místicas.Además, la obra constituye en sí misma un tratado de budismo tibetano (también llamado tántrico, Vadjrayana o, simplemente, lamaísmo) que es en la actualidad el de más amplia difusión en Occidente. Pese a ello, el público en general sólo conoce de él algunos aspectos secundarios o de mero folklore. Y otro tanto puede decirse sobre el conocimiento del propio Tíbet y de los tibetanos, cuya supervivencia cultural se encuentra seriamente amenazada. Lo que cincuenta años de presión ideológica y militar no habían conseguido, lo está consiguiendo en los últimos cinco el oro de Pekín. Así, en la Historia de Milarepa se expone la experiencia mística de forma magistral, al tiempo que permite al lector curioso aproximarse a estos grandes desconocidos, el Tíbet y su budismo, y penetrar en el alma tibetana mejor que con cualquier descripción de viajeros o historiadores.La edición y la traducción directa del tibetano de esta obra singular han sido realizadas por Iñaki Preciado Idoeta, doctor en filosofía, tibetólogo y sinólogo, a quien ya en 1980 le fue otorgado el Premio Nacional de Traducción ¨Fray Luis de León” por su traducción del Lao zi (“El Libro del Tao”).
